Bilderback Claims Overall State Championship at Jefferson Speedway

Saturday, September 16, 2006 (Jefferson, WI) – Ricky Bilderback of Rockton Il. Edged into the overall championship title, with his 2nd and 6th place finish, in the Twin 50 lap main events. Bilderback’s combined finishes were identical to those of Jeremy Miller, taking the decision to Qualifying time for the tie breaker. Bilderback had turned in a 14.268 lap, in qualifying, compared to Miller’s lap of 14.338. Bilderback’s margin of victory was .07 seconds, in qualifying!

Luke Westenberg of Watertown won the first Late Model, Big 8, 50 lapper. Starting from the pole position Westenberg surrendered the point to Jason Dunn on lap 3, only to regain the top spot following Dunn’s spin, on lap 6. Once back at the point Westenberg showed the way to the checkers, as Ricky Bilderback worked his way through traffic to the 2nd spot. At the stripe it was Westenberg for the win, followed by Bilderback, Steve Dobbratz, Doug Hahn, Jason Schuler and Jeremy Miller.

Bob Kahler of Belvidere Il. Claimed victory in the 2nd 50 lapper for the Late Mode, Big 8, division. At the green flag it was Jerry Gille claiming the early lead, with Kahler working his way from behind. Kahler closed the gap, by lap 6, and started working the inside. On lap 11, Kahler motored under Gille to claim the top spot and never looked back, showing the way from there to the checkered flag. At the stripe it was Kahler for the win followed by Jeremy Miller, Gille, Kyle Jarlsberg, Doug Hahn and Ricky Bilderback.

In Sportsman division action Scott “Chico” Riedner claimed the “Wisconsin State championship,” with his victory in the 50 lap main event. Starting inside row 7, Riedner started his drive to the front, as Roger Stanczyk drove to the early lead. Stanczyk led the way for 10 laps before surrendering the point to Dave Oswald, on the 11th circuit. As Oswald took the lead, Riedner was working his way up from 6th. By lap 16, Jay Kalbus claimed the 2nd spot, with Riedner moving ahead from 4th. Riedner motored past Stanczyk, for 3rd, on lap 17, as Kalbys worked the inside of Oswald. Riedner motored bast Kalbus on lap 22, moving to the inside of Oswald. Trying to regain the position, Kalbus lost the handle, in turn 1, bringing out the 3rd caution of the race. On the restart Riedner went to work on Oswald, claiming the top spot on lap 24. At the stripe it was Riedner for the win followed by Oswald, Trent Erdman, Michael Heelein and Kalbus.

In International action Allen Dillon claimed victory in the 30 lap feature. Starting inside row 4, Dillon headed toward the point as Dale Nottestad pulled to the early lead. Dillon led the way for 9 laps before surrendering the point to Chris Chenoweth. Chenoweth held the top spot, until lap 27, when Dillon motored to the inside, claiming the lead 1 lap before the white flag. As they streaked past the checkers it was Dillon for the win, followed by Chenoweth, Brandon Riedner, Chris Gottschalk, and Kevin Eckes.

In Hobby Stock action Ken Au of Jefferson claimed top honors in the 35 lap feature. Starting outside row 7, Au headed to the front as Mike Meyers grabbed the early lead. Meyers lost the point to Chet Paffel, on the 5th circuit. Paffel traded the top spot, with Pete Elgas on lap 6, only to reclaim it on 7, with Au up to the 5th spot. Au made his way to 2nd, by lap 16, looking to the inside of Paffel. Caught in lapped traffic, Au dropped back to the 3rd spot, and had to make his way back to the front. Reclaiming 2nd, on lap 19, Au moved to the inside, making the winning pass on lap 20. At the stripe it was Au for the win followed by Elgas, Jimmy Robinson, Alan Dorn and Paffel.

In Bandit action several times Track Champion, Bill Sweeney of Janesville, claimed victory in the 30 lap main event. Starting inside row 7, Sweeney battled his way to the front as Alex Jones claimed the early lead. Jones held the point for 14 laps before surrendering the top spot, to Rodney Mundt. Mundt was at the front of a 3-way battle for the lead, with Kyle Watters and Sweeney, when a spinning lapped car collected Mundt, on lap 24. On the restart it was Sweeney at the point with Watters running 2nd. From that point it was Sweeney showing the way to the checkered flag. At the finish it was Sweeney for the win followed by Kyle Watters, Sean Watters, Jeffery LeFave and Stephen Scheel.

This concludes the racing action, for the 2006 season, at Wisconsin’s Action Track. The action will continue in the Spring of 2007, when the roar of the engines will, once again, wake the quite Wisconsin countryside on Saturday nights.
