Chesmore chalks up another Jefferson Speedway victory!

July 15, 2000; Jefferson, WI. -Dan Chesmore of Janesville extended his winning streak in the 35 lap late model feature on Wisconsin’s Action Track. Starting from the outside of row 7 Chesmore started his trek to the front, as Gene Olson Jr. of Jefferson motored out to the early lead. Caution came on lap 7, for a car in the turn 4 wall. On the restart Olson was at the point with Chesmore up to the 7th spot. Olson continued to guide he way as Chesmore battled his way through the field. Chesmore was up to the 5th spot by lap 19 when the caution came out for a stalled car in the 4th turn.

On the restart Chesmore moved to the inside of Luke Westenberg of Palmyra, claiming the 4th spot on lap 20. Motoring under Randy Breunig of Columbus Chesmore claimed the 3rd spot by lap 26. Caution came again, on lap 26 for a spin on the back stretch. On the restart Olson still held the point, with Chesmore right on his back bumper.

Battling side by side, for 4 laps, Chesmore managed the winning pass on lap 30, guiding the field over the remaining 5 laps. At the stripe it was Chesmore for the win, followed by Breunig, Ron Bishofberger of Ft. Atkinson, Luke Westenberg of Palmyra, Olson and Chris Purdy of Milton. Breunig subsequently failed the post race technical inspection, moving the remainder of the lineup up one position.

Bishofberger set the high mark in qualifying with a 15.940 second tour of the quarter mile.

Ten lap heat race victories were claimed by Brian Sonnenberg of Cambridge, Duane Deppe of Waterloo, Tom Dorn of Ft. Atkinson and Chesmore.

Moving to the feature lineup from the 20 lap Last Chance race were, Andy Wendt of Watertown, Mike Taylor of Stoughton, Chad Stevens of Beloit and Jim Gleesing of Whitewater. Wendt suffered mechanical problems following the Last Chance race, moving Duane Deppe of Waterloo into the feature lineup.

Joining the Last Chance race, from the 10 lap Consolation race were Wendt and John Hoff.

In International Class action Brent Nottestad of Cambridge notched his 5th feature of the 2000 season. Starting from the outside of row 6 Nottestad started his drive to the front as Charles Dixon of Waukesha pulled out to the early lead. Dixon held off the challenge of Jefferson’s Mike Bingham through the only caution of the race, on lap 10, for a spin on the back stretch. On the restart it was Dixon at the point, with Nottestad up to 5th. Dixon held the point for 6 more laps, as Nottestad picked off competitors, one by one, on his way to the front. Closing with Dixon on lap 16, Nottestad pulled to the bottom claiming the top spot. At the stripe it was Nottestad for the win, followed by Bingham, defending track champion Justin Nottestad of Cambridge, Dixon and Chris Quam of Stoughton.

Brent Nottestad set the fast qualifying pace with a 15.842 second circuit of the quarter mile speed plant.

Victories, in 10 lap heat races, went to Bobby Moore of Edgerton and Mike Drays of Milton.

In Sportsman Division action Dave Oswald of Cottage grove carved another notch with the “Cow Car”, winning his 7th feature of the 2000 season, at the end of a perfect night of racing. Starting from the outside of row 7, Oswald started the journey to the checkered flag as Mike Landers of Johnson Creek pulled out to the early lead. Pulling into second, behind Landers, was Tony Koepke of Ft. Atkinson.

As Oswald worked his way through the field, Landers and Koepke battled for the top spot, with Koepke looking for a way around. Oswald claimed the 3rd spot on lap 20, well behind the battle for the lead. Koepke managed to pull ahead of Landers on lap 19 only to see Landers reclaim the point on lap 20. As the pair battled for the top spot Oswald drew near, watching for an opening. On lap 21, Koepke slipped a bit, and Oswald pulled to 2nd, challenging Landers. The only caution of the race came on lap 23, when a pair of cars tangled in the 4th turn.

On the restart it was Landers at the point with Oswald running 2nd. Oswald pulled to the outside claiming the point at the white flag as they charged toward the checkered. At the strip it was Oswald for the win followed by Landers, Jeff Kohlhoff of Watertown, Koepke and Josh Courtney of Janesville.

Oswald set the fast qualifying pace with a 15.842 second loop of the quarter mile.

Claiming victory, in 10 lap heat races were Mike Acheson of Watertown, Joe Wendorf of Jefferson and Oswald.

Joining the feature lineup, from the 15 lap Last Chance race were Joe Wendorf of Jefferson, Pete Olsen of Ft. Atkinson, Josh Weir of Cottage Grove and Bob Jacobs of Deforest.

In Hobby Stock action, Tim Noble of Janesville became the first driver to claim more than a single feature win, in the 2000 season. Starting from the outside of row 6, Noble started his drive tot he front as Kevin Quale of Ft. Atkinson pulled out to the early lead. Caution came on lap 12, when a driver refused to obey the black flag.

On the restart it was Quale at the point with Noble up to 2nd. Noble battled from behind, still trailing Quale when the second caution came on lap 16. On the restart Noble moved to the inside, battling for 2 laps, before edging ahead of Quale on lap 19. At the stripe it was Noble for the win, followed by Quale, Roger Stephenson of Cambridge, Jim Pfeifer of Ft. Atkinson, Bill Bush of Jefferson and Dennis Schmidt of Watertown.

Tim Noble of Janesville set the fast qualifying pace with a 16.935 second orbit of the quarter mile.

Claiming victory, in 8 lap heat races, were Ernie Witte of Johnson Creek, Nick Golich of Hebron and Lincoln Keeser of Milton.

Moving to the feature lineup, via the 10 lap Last Chance race were Witte, Nick Golich of Hebron, Jeremy Hartwig of Cottage Grove and John Deussler of Marshall.

Rounding out the evenings entertainment was the Great American Trailer Race, with Jason Ayers of Stoughton claiming the checkered flag and Mike Funk being awarded “Best of Show”.

Any body seen a snow storm? Mike Funk (#19), of parts unknown, earned “Best of Show” honors in the Great American Trailer Race, with his snowmobile and trailer entry. Next week at Jefferson Speedway hosts the WFAW Blackhawk 50 along with One-on-One Street Drags and Special Olympics night. Gates open at 4:00, qualifying at 5:30 and racing at 7:30 sharp. Jefferson Speedway is on highway 18 between Cambridge and Jefferson Wisconsin.
