Hahn Wins Late Models at Jefferson Speedway

June 23, 2007; Jefferson WI — Doug Hahn of Whitewater claimed top honors, for the third time in 2007, in the “Fort & Janesville Quick Cash 50” Late Model feature. Starting 6th in the field, Hahn headed toward the front as Scott Lindsay claimed the early lead. Lindsey led the way for 8 laps before being overtaken by defending track champion, John Ovadal. Once at the point, Ovadal opened a strong lead over the field, with Lindsay running a close 2nd, as Hahn battled forward from 6th.

That all ended on lap 31, when Lindsay spun in turn 1, bringing out the caution and closing the field for a restart. Ovadal led the restart, with Justin
Schultz 2nd and Hahn up to 3rd. At the green Hahn moved under Schultz
battling side-by-side, for 4 laps, before claiming 2nd on lap 35. Closing with Ovadal, on lap 36 Hahn launched his bid for the lead. The pair battled for 8 laps, with Ovadal leading each lap, by a small margin. Hahn pulled ahead on lap 44, with Dylan Schuyler close behind making a bid for 2nd. Schuyler claimed the 2nd spot on lap 46, closing with Hahn. At the stripe it was Hahn for the win followed by Schuyler, Ovadal, Roger Behlke and Steve Dobbratz.

In Sportsman division action, many time track champion, Dave Oswald of Cottage grove notched his first feature win of the 2007 season, in the 30 lap main event. Starting inside row 7, Oswald headed toward the point as B.J. Erickson took the early lead. Erickson was relieved, at the point, by Terry Wangsness, on lap 4, by Terry Wangsness. Wangsness
pulled ahead of the field, opening a straight away lead over the next 20 laps, as Oswald made his way through the field, claiming the 2nd spot on lap 23, with Scott “Chico” Riedner close behind in 3rd. Wangsness held an insurmountable lead, until lap 25, when a car erupted in smoke, oiling the track going into turn 1 and brought out the caution. With 5 laps remaining, Wangsness led the restart with Oswald and Riedner right on his tail. Oswald claimed the point on lap 26, with Riedner close behind to claim the 2nd spot on lap 27. Caution came again, on lap 28, for a crash out of turn 2, setting up a Green-White-Checkered finish. At the strip it was Oswald for the win, followed by Riedner, Wangsness, Greg Ovadal and Ken Scott.

In Hobby Stock action Bobby Selsing of Fort Atkinson claimed his first, career, Hobby Stock feature win, in the 25 lap main event. Starting outside the front row, Selsing took the lead at the green flag and never looked back, guiding the field to the checkers. Selsing opened a quarter lap lead, as the battle, for 2nd on back, raged behind him. At the stripe it was Selsing for the win followed by Steven Sauer, Mike Meyers, Larry Moen and Alan Dorn.

In International action Mark English of Janesville claimed top honors in the 20 lap feature. Starting 10th English started his drive to the front as Mike Bingham grabbed the early lead. Bingham led the way for 14 laps, with Kyle Smith running 2nd and looking for an opening. English made his way to 3rd by lap 10 moving under smith on his way to the front. English claimed the 2nd spot by lap 13, moving under Bingham in his bid for the lead. Pulling ahead of Bingham, on lap 14 English
showed the way to the checkers. At the stripe it was English followed by Smith, Bingham, James Bell and Chris Gottschalk.

In Bandit action Gary Stark of Waunakee notched the win, in the 20 lap feature. Starting 14th Stark began his trek to the checkers as Jody Schmidt claimed the early lead. Stark claimed the 2nd spot by lap 9, motoring to the outside of Schmidt to make the winning pass, on lap 10. From there it was Stark all the way to the checkers. The race was interrupted by a caution, for a stalled car, on lap 15. At the stripe it was Stark for the win followed by Kyle Watters, Kyle Padfield,
Stephen Scheel and Sean Watters.

Next week Jefferson Speedway hosts the Independence Day Special, featuring “Coin Toss for Kids”, “Stock Car Rides for Kids”, “Big Wheel Races for Kids” and a full racing program and the “Fireworks Spectacular” by your local Gods of Thunder.
