Jefferson WCS Go Weathered Out and Rescheduled!

By Jeffrey Sachse

April 22, 2005; Jefferson, Wis. – The Star Packaging 100 at Jefferson Speedway set for Saturday evening April 23rd has been won by Mother Nature.

The show featuring the Wisconsin Challenge Series Late Super Late Models has been moved to Saturday evening May 21st. After some quick conversations with area tracks the date will prove to cause no conflicts with area cars. Dells Motor Speedway will be leaving their machines off that evening after adjusting their schedule and Marshfield Speedway will be running a program that does not include Super Late Models. Meaning the full WCS field will be on hand for the rescheduled contest.

A winterlike spring storm rolled into the Jefferson Speedway on Friday morning prompting the postponement and bringing rain, plummeting temperatures and increasing winds. The storm, showing a forecast with continued unseasonably cold temperatures and strong winds prompted both Jefferson Speedway and Wisconsin Challenge Series officials to reschedule the event.

At race time on Saturday the forecast was indicating temperatures near freezing and strong winds. Combined the wind chill could drop the feel of the air to as low as 20 degrees.

“The changes were made with the race fan in mind. This is going to be an exciting show, and we want to hold it at a time when fans can enjoy the program and we’re betting the mid-May date will have more hospitable weather”, noted Series events director Jeffrey Sachse.

The reschedule show will utilize the same schedule of events on Saturday evening May 21st. The show itself will be a huge one as fans will also witness 4 other divisions of competition in attrition to the Wisconsin Challenge Series Super Late Models. Fans will also see a full program of the fast and furious Sportsman division, the wild fender banging Hobby Stocks, the agile International 4 cylinder class, and not to be out done, the no holds barred, 4 wide racing Bandit division, and entry level 4 cylinder class which has proven racing can be a contact sport.

Pit gates will open at Noon, with practice set to begin at 1:00 p.m. Qualifying will begin at 4:00 p.m., and the first green flag of the day will fly at 7:00 p.m. All totaled fans can expect to witness nearly 300 laps of racing throughout the course of the day. Adult admission for the show is a fan friendly $12 making the program an exceptional value.
