Chesmore
claims victory in Spring Sizzler 50
at Jefferson Speedway!

April 28, 2001; Jefferson, WI. - Defending track champion Dan Chesmore of
Janesville, came from an 11th place start to claim victory in the Towel City Racing Tires
Spring Sizzler 50, on Wisconsin's action track. Scott Nottestad of Stoughton took the
point, at the green flag, opening up strong lead over the first half of the race, as
Chesmore battled his way through traffic.
Chesmore motored under Mike Taylor of Stoughton, to join the top 5, on lap 17,
closing with Tom Dorn of Ft. Atkinson in the battle for 4th. Chesmore moved under Dorn and
Beau Sanden of Janesville, on lap 23, claiming 3rd spot, behind Roger Behlke of Jefferson.
Behlke held off Chesmore until lap 25 before falling to the 3rd spot. Moving under
Nottestad on lap 30 Chesmore made the winning pass on lap 32.
Guiding the way to the checkered flag, Chesmore opened up a strong lead, with the
battle for second falling in the distance. The only caution of the race came, for a spin
on the front stretch on the white flag lap. At the finish it was Chesmore for the win,
followed by Nottestad, Andy Wendt of Watertown, Jason Erickson of Cambridge and Ron
Bishofberger of Ft. Atkinson.
Wendt set the fast qualifying pace with a 14.817 second orbit of the quarter mile speed
plant. Bill Leindecker of Janesville claimed the win, in the 8 lap Dash-for-cash. Heat
race victories when to Brian Sonnenberg of Cambridge, Bill Drefahl Jr. of Evansville,
Nottestad and Wendt.
Moving to the 20 lap last chance race, from the 10 lap Consolation Race were Sonnenberg
and Bart Reinen of Jefferson. Joining the feature lineup, via the 20 lap Last Chance Race,
were Wayne Whitford of Janesville, John Ovadal Jr. of Johnson Creek, Reinen and Butch
Mierendorf of Waterloo.
In International division action, Aaron Rude of Cambridge claimed top honors in the 20
lap main event. Starting from the outside of row 4, Rude started his move to the front, as
Tim Woollen of Madison pulled out to the Early lead. Woolen held the point for 2 laps, as
Bobby Moore of Edgerton moved past on lap 2. Caution came, on lap 8, for a spinning car,
with Moore still at the point.
Rude motored past Mark English of Janesville to close with Moore on lap 9, and claim
the lead on the tenth circuit. The race slowed for another caution on lap 12 when a car
hit the back stretch wall, out of turn 2. At the restart Rude never looked back, as he
guided the way to the checkered. At the stripe it was Rude for the win, followed by Moore,
defending track champion Brent Nottestad of Cambridge, Ed Wolf III of Watertown and
English.
Nottestad set the fast qualifying pace with a 15.872 second tour of the quarter mile.
Claiming victories in 10 lap heat races were Moore and Chris Quam of Stoughton.
In Sportsman Division action Todd Goldade of Stoughton held off defending track
champion Dave Oswald of Cottage Grove to claim the win, in the 25 lap main event. Starting
from outside row 2, Goldade headed for the front, as Dan Schmidt of Watertown jumped out
to the early lead. Goldade moved under Dale Padfield of Jefferson on lap 14, in his bid
for 2nd. Moving past Padfield on lap 14, Goldade closed with Schmidt. Goldade claimed the
lead, before the only caution of the race, on lap 15, for debris on the track.
As Goldade guided the way, Oswald claimed the 2nd spot on lap 16 closing with Goldade.
Oswald made several, unsuccessful, moves on Goldade but was unable to find the opening he
needed. At the stripe it was Goldade followed by Oswald, Trent Erdman of Ft. Atkinson,
Josh Courtney of Janesville and Schmidt.
Oswald turned in the fast qualifying time, with a 15.814 second tour of the quarter
mile. Claiming victory, in 10 lap heat races, were Nancy Olson of Ft. Atkinson, Jeremy
Hayton of Whitewater and Goldade. Joining the Last Chance race, from the 10 lap
Consolation race, were Noel Ramge of Hellenville and Jason Thoma of Jefferson. Moving to
the feature lineup, via the 10 lap Last Chance race, were Josh Weir of Cottage Grove,
Hayton, Bret Schmidt of Watertown and Ramge.
In Hobby Stock action Jim Pfeifer of Ft. Atkinson came from the outside of row 7 to
claim victory in the 20 lap main feature. Chuck Egli pulled ahead at the green flag
guiding the way until lap 19, with Pfeifer claiming the lead on the white flag lap. At the
stripe it was Pfeifer for the win followed by Egli, Terry Wangsness of Delavan, Lincoln
Keeser of Milton and Ernie Witte of Watertown.
Pfeifer set the fast qualifying pace with a 16.995 second loop of the quarter mile.
Claiming victories, in 8 lap heat races, were John Duessler of Marshall, Dennis Gaserude
of Arena and Lincoln Keeser of Milton. Moving to the Last Chance Race, from the 8 lap
Consolation race, were Kyle Genz of Hellenville and Bill Bush of Jefferson. Making their
way to the feature lineup, from the 8 lap Last Chance, were Gaserude, Tom O'rourke of
Poynette, Lonny Wilson of Janesville and Mike Manley of Ft. Atkinson.
Next Saturday night is Autograph and Picture night at Jefferson Speedway.
Gates open at 3:00, qualifying at 5:00 and racing at 7:00 sharp. Jefferson Speedway is
on Highway 18 between Cambridge and Jefferson Wisconsin.
