Ovadal Victorious at Jefferson Speedway!

John Ovadal Jr. of Watertown came from a 10th place start to claim top honors in
the "Papa Murphy's 50." At the green flag Steve Dobbratz grabbed the early
lead, guiding the way for 5 laps before losing the point to Chad "Squirt"
Stevens.
Stevens led the way to lap 45, as Ovadal worked his way through traffic.
Closing with Stevens, on lap 37, Ovadal launched his bid for the lead, with Ovadal edging
ahead on lap 46. Stevens made a strong come back bid, but it was cut short, on lap
48, by a caution flag, for a spin in the middle of the field. At the stripe it was
Ovadal, by a slim margin, over Stevens, followed by Jason Erickson, Randy Breunig and
Dobbratz.
In International action Scotty Hoeft of Watertown turned a 9th place start into a
feature win, in the 20 lap main event. It was Keith Peck out in front, at the green
flag, only to turn the point over to Tim Seitz on the third circuit. By lap 7, Hoeft
had caught the leaders, entering a 3-way battle with Seitz and Aaron Rude. Hoeft
motored under Seitz on lap 9, guiding the way to the checkers. At the finish it was
Hoeft for the win, followed by Rude, Steve Allman, Seitz and Joe Cross.
Noel Ramge notched the win, in the 30 lap Sportsman division feature. Starting
inside row 5, Ramge headed toward the front, as Mark English claimed the early lead.
English surrendered the point to Dan Schmidt on lap 8, with Bobby Stough and Ramge
in tow, for 2nd and 3rd. Stough relieved Schmidt at the point on lap 13, holding off
Ramge for 8 laps. On lap 21, Ramge motored under Stough for the top spot, guiding
the field to the checkers. At the finish it was Ramge followed by Bret Schmidt, Mark
Deporter, Stough and Ryan Goldade.
In Hobby Stock Action Terry Wangsness logged another feature win. Starting from
the inside of row 7, Wangsness started his journey to the checkered, as Dennis Schmidt
jumped to the early lead. Schmidt lost the point to Bret Carson on lap 12.
Carson had trouble on lap 12, handing the point to Jim Tate Jr. Tate led the way for
5 laps before being overtaken by Wangsness. Taking the lead on lap 18 Wangsness led
the field at the finish, followed by Tate, Schmidt, Eaan Carson and Dennis Smith.
In Bandit action Dan "Big Tiny" Gosda of Sun Prairie scored his first feature
win, in the 18 lap main event. Starting 9th, Gosda headed to the point, as Tina
Remsik drove to the early lead. Remsik surrendered the point to Rory Padfield, on
lap 3, with Gosda up to third. Gosda made his way past Remsik by lap 8, closing with
Padfield. On lap 15 Gosda moved to the inside, powering past Padfield for the top
spot. At the finish it was Gosda, followed by Padfield, Allen Petrie, Troy Yohn and
Remsik.
With 146 cars, in 5 divisions, it was a long night of racing at Jefferson Speedway, for
round one of the "Summer Rumble." Round two of the "Summer
Rumble" is next Friday night at Columbus 151 Speedway.
Next week at Jefferson Speedway, it's "Q106 Night at the Races," with the
"Goodyear Twin 35's." That's right two, 35 lap, Late Model Features, along
with a full racing program in the Late Model, Sportsman, International, Hobby Stock and
Bandit divisions. The Bandit division has been added to the schedule for this
special event.
Gates open at 2:30PM, Qualifying at 4:30PM and Racing starts at 7:00PM sharp.
Jefferson Speedway is half way between Jefferson and Cambridge Wisconsin, on Highway
18.
