Jefferson Speedway Race Report:

July 9, 2005; Jefferson, Wis. -   Dylan Schuyler of Dousman claimed his 2nd feature of the 2005 season in the “Miller American 50,” 50 lap Late Model feature.

Dylan Schulyer (33) of Dousman held off Jason Erickson (94) to win his second late model feature of '05 by capturing the Miller Lite 50, the 50-lap late model feature Saturday at Jefferson Speedway. Ft. Atkinson's Mark DePorter (28) passed early leader Brent Gergen (38) and went on to win the sportsman class feature race at Jefferson Speedway Saturday. Scotty Hoeft (00) of Watertown zoomed past Bill Sweeney and went on to win the Jefferson Speedway international class feature Saturday night. Stoughton's Jesse Ayers (44) edges past Mike Meyers enroute to winning the hobby stock feature Saturday at Jefferson Speedway.  Shaun Scheel (8) of Johnson Creek mastered the bandit main event Saturday at Jefferson Speedway. Here he passes eventual sixth place finisher Rodney Mundt.

Starting 10th Schuyler began his trek to the checkered flag as Mike Taylor grabbed the early lead. Schuyler made his way to the 5th spot before the yellow flew, on lap 6, for a spin in the 2nd turn. Taylor continued to lead with April Reimer and Tony Koepke locked in a side by side battle for 2nd. Behind that Schuyler and Luke Westenberg battled for the 4th spot, both looking for an opening ahead. Schuyler found his opening, motoring past Reimer and Koepke, for 2nd, by lap 18, with Jason Erickson joining the battle with Koepke for 3rd. Schuyler motored under Taylor, claiming the point on lap 20, with Erickson moving into 3rd. Caution came again on lap 21, when a pair of cars tangled in turn 2. On the restart Erickson drove under Taylor for 2nd, with Ken Olson close behind in the 3rd spot. Olson battled Erickson, for the 2nd spot, for 7 laps before losing the handle and spinning, in turn 1, to bring out the final caution of the race. As Schuyler showed the way to the checkers, Erickson looked for a way to the front as Chris Koepke made his way to the 3rd spot. At the stripe it way Schuyler for the win followed by Erickson, Chris Koepke and Olson.

In Sportsman division action, defending track champion, Mark DePorter of Fort Atkinson, claimed top honors in the lap main event. Starting 4th DePorter headed toward the front, as Brent Gergen claimed the early lead. Claiming the 2nd spot, by lap 2, DePorter looked to the inside of Gergen, motoring to the top spot on lap 4. The only caution of the race came on lap 22, for a spin in turn 4. DePorter led the restart, guiding the way to the checkers. At the finish it was DePorter for the win followed by Jay Kalbus, Jason Thoma, Gergen and Tom Rents.

In International action, Scotty Hoeft of Watertown was first across the line, in the 15 lap feature. Starting 3rd, Hoeft headed for the front as Bill Sweeney claimed the early lead. Sweeney surrendered the point, to Hoeft, on lap 2. The race was interrupted by a caution, on lap 6, when the battle for 2nd, between Chris Nelson and Mark English ended with a crash into the front stretch wall. From the restart to the checkered flat it was Hoeft at the point, followed by Chris Chenoweth, Mark Joyner, Sweeney and Michelle Heimann.

In Hobby Stock action Jesse Ayers of Stoughton was victorious in the 20 lap feature. Starting outside row 4, Ayers headed for the point as Tim Lange claimed the early lead. The yellow flew on lap 2, for a bumper on the track. On the restart Ryan Oldenhoff moved under Lange, claiming the point by the 3rd circuit, while Ayers moved up to the 4th spot. Ayers claimed the 3rd spot on lap 6 and 2nd on lap 7, closing with Oldenhoff. After a 7 lap battle, Oldenhoff spun out of the lead, ending up in the infield grass, handing the point to Ayers. As they took the checkers it was Ayes for the win followed by Johnny Robinson, Pete Elgas, Dennis Schmidt and Eaan Carson.

In Bandit action Shaun Scheel of Lake Mills claimed the win in the 18 lap main event. Starting outside row 4, Scheel headed to the front as Dale Warner drove to the early lead. Warner lost the point, to Rodney Mundt, on lap 2, with Scheel up to 3rd. Scheel drove to the 2nd spot by lap 4, and the lead by lap 6. At the line it was Scheel for the win, followed by Tom Schuette, Chris Hart, Jody Krueger and Kyle Padfield.

Next week at Jefferson Speedway hosts “WJVL Night at the Races,” featuring the “Kearn’s 50 Rematch,” with a 50 lap Late Model feature and a full racing program in all divisions, capped by One-on-One Street Drags.

Gates open at 2:00, Qualifying at 4:30 and racing starts at 7:00 sharp.

Jefferson Speedway is half way between Cambridge and Jefferson Wisconsin on Highway 18.
