The Wisconsin State Championship feature race for bandit cars was won by John Remsik (98) of Watertown. Here he prepares to pass Ryan Hart (outside) and Bobby Selsing (42) enroute to the crown Saturday night.

After a 2 lap battle, Kalbus pulled ahead, on lap 14, and never looked back. On his way to the finish Kalbus opened nearly a half lap lead, as the battled raged behind him. Mark DePorter made his way to 2nd, on lap 20, but had little luck closing with Kalbus. The race slowed for 4 caution periods, on laps 15, 20, 38 and 40. Kalbus led each of the restarts and was unchallenged on his way to the finish. At the stripe it was Kalbus for the win, followed by DePorter, Don Trush, Rents and Roger Stanczyk.

In International action Mark English of Janesville, the 2005 track champion, claimed top honors in the 30 lap “State Championship” feature. Chris Nelson claimed the lead on lap 1, guiding the way for 24 laps, as English moved up from behind. English motored past Scotty Hoeft, for 2nd, on lap 13, looking a long way ahead to Nelson. Caution came, on lap 21, for a single car crash in turn 4 closing the field for the restart. Nelson led the restart with English close behind. Looking to the inside, for 4 laps, English made the winning pass on lap 25. At the stripe it was English for the win followed by Nelson, Hoeft, Chris Chenoweth and Jon St. Biele.

In Hobby Stock action, Dennis Schmidt of Johnson Creek claimed the first feature win of his racing career, in the 35 lap “State Championship” main event. Jesse Ayers claimed the early lead, showing the way for 3 laps before surrendering the point to Schmidt. Once at the point, Schmidt pulled ahead, as Ayers and Lincoln Keeser battled for the 2nd spot. The battle, for 2nd, lasted all the way to the finish, with Ayers holding onto the spot. At the checkered it was Schmidt for the win, followed by Ayers, Keeser, Jim Williams and Larry Moen.

In Bandit action Jim Remsik claimed top honors in the 30 lap “State Championship” feature. Kyle Padfield claimed the early lead, showing the way for 8 laps before giving up the point to Bobby Selsing. Caution came on lap 9, for a multi-car spin, in turn 3. The direction of travel was reversed for the restart, with Selsing still at the point. Remsik motored past Selsing, on lap 11, only to see Selsing retake the lead on lap 13. Selsing and Remsik continued to battle through traffic, until lap 24.

On lap 24 Selsing attempted to make his way through a 5-wide affair in the 2nd turn, ending up on his side in the infield, and bringing out the final caution of the race. Remsik led the restart, guiding the way from there to the checkered. At the finish it was Remsik for the win followed by Shaun Scheel, Sean Watters, Nick Balis and Kyle Padfield.

This closes the 2005 Racing Season at Jefferson Speedway. The management and staff of Jefferson Speedway would like to take this opportunity to thank our fans, drivers, crews, and sponsors, for a great racing season. We hope to see you all in April when we kick off the 2006 season.
