*Riedner,
Robinson and Stark Victorious at Jefferson Speedway*
by Larry & Jeanne Starr |
May 19, 2007; Jefferson WI --Three
of Jefferson Speedway’s divisions were racing, before a crowd of over 3800
fans, as the ASA Midwest tour came to Wisconsin's Action Track.
Scott "Chico" Riedner of Waunakee claimed top honors in the 35 lap
Sportsman main. Starting inside row 7 Riedner headed toward the front as
Russ Nicholson grabbed the early lead. Nicholson showed the way, for 14
laps, as Riedner worked his way through traffic. Motoring under
Nicholson, Riedner made the winning pass on lap 14 guiding the way to the
checkers.
The run to the checkers was slowed by two cautions, for a spin on lap 17
and another on lap 24. At the stripe it was Riedner for the win followed by
Luke Padfield, James Helmer, Tom Reents and Jay Kalbus.
In Hobby Stock action Jim Robinson of Orfordville cruised to victory, in
the 25 lap feature. Starting outside of the third row, Robinson headed to
the front as Mike Manley grabbed the early lead. Robinson was up to the 3rd
spot when the caution came, on lap 2, for debris on the track. By the 6th
circuit Robinson made his way to 2nd, closing with Manley.
Robinson drove under Manley, for the top spot, on lap 7, with Chet Paffel
close behind for the 2nd spot. As they took the checkers it was Robinson for
the win, followed by Paffel, Jim Tate Jr., Alan Dorn and Tim Lange.
In Bandit action Gary Stark of Waunakee notched the win, in the 25 lap
main event. Starting inside row 8, Stark began his drive to the front as
Titus Helgastade grabbed the early lead. Rodney Mundt relieved Helgastade at
the point, on lap 6. Caution flew, on lap 8, for a spin in the 2nd turn.
Mundt led the restart with Stark running 2nd. Kyle Watters and Stephen
Scheel motored under both Stark and Mundt, claiming the top 2 spots, on the
restart. Stark moved under Mundt hanging onto the 3rd spot. Moving under
Scheel, on lap 18, Stark closed with Watters, making the winning pass on the
lap 19. A spin, on lap 23 brought the final caution, setting up a
green-white-checkered finish. At the stripe it was Stark for the win,
followed by Scheel, Watters, Mundt and Jeffery Lefave.
Next week the action continues at Jefferson Speedway as Star Packaging
presents Twin 35 lap Late Model features, along with a full racing program,
in all 5 divisions and an extended feature in the International class.
Gates open at 3:00, qualifying at 5:00 and racing at 7:00 sharp. Also on
tap for Sunday, of Memorial Day weekend, is the first Tournament of
Destruction of the 2007 season.
Haseleu Wins ASA Midwest Tour Race at Jefferson Speedway

CAMBRIDGE, WI (May 19, 2007) – Super Late Model racing returned to
Jefferson Speedway Saturday night as the stars of the American Speed
Association Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by Echo Outdoor Power Equipment
took on the local heroes of the quarter-mile asphalt oval in the running of
the Jefferson 100 presented by Lancaster Toyota.
Nathan Haseleu of Marshall finished out what he started at Elko Speedway
three weeks prior, taking the checkers in the Jefferson 100. Haseleu had
been leading with 10 laps remaining in the Elko 125 when he suffered
ignition troubles, ending his night just shy of victory. Haseleu’s win
brought his hometown crowd to its feet rooting for his feat.
Intermittent rain showers didn’t deter forty of the nation’s top Super Late
Model drivers and a full-house crowd from heading out to Jefferson Speedway
to put on an amazing show in the Jefferson 100 presented by Lancaster Toyota
of Madison. The feature field started 26 cars. Sponsors Echo, Kwik Trip, and
Scag Power Equipment greeted fans with displays in the pedestrian mall
inside Speedway grounds with free product samples and actual power tools for
people to handle and learn about. The full-house crowd and packed pit area
further demonstrate the ASA Midwest Tour is going to be a hit this season
and beyond.
The top sixteen in qualifying were locked into the show, and the top
fourteen were inverted based on a dice roll plus eight. The inversion put
Russ Blakely and Bryan Roach on the front row and fast time “Blow Your
Competition Away” award winner Dan Lensing on the outside of the seventh
row.
The Kwik Trip Touring Stars were fan favorites at Jefferson Speedway. Dan
Fredrickson (Elko, MN), Josh Vadnais (White Bear Lake, MN), Donny Reuvers (Dundas,
MN), Bryan Roach (Minneapolis, MN), Kenny Richards (Montello), Nathan
Haseleu (Marshall), Rod Wheeler (Appleton), Brad “JJ” Mueller (Random Lake),
Dave Feiler (Sun Prairie), Travis Sauter (Necedah), Collin Bamke (Slinger),
Kris Kelly (Norway, MI), and Jamie Iverson (Escanaba, MI) took part in a
pre-race autograph session before opening ceremonies and a long line of fans
gathered to get posters and other memorabilia signed by the top Super Late
Model drivers of today.
Local hero Rich Bickle also participated in the Jefferson 100 and was
involved in a wreck at the green flag that took out half of the field,
ending his night before the main event had a single lap in after a
preliminary race win earlier in the evening. Bickle has competed in the
top-tier of NASCAR on and off since 1989 and was runner up to the Craftsman
Truck Series championship in 1997.
Super Late Models are 500+ horsepower fully fabricated tubular frame
specially engineered racecars that can make a lap around Jefferson Speedway
in less than 13.9 seconds.
Jefferson Speedway is a progressive banked quarter-mile located between
Jefferson and Cambridge in South Central Wisconsin along US Highway 18. The
facility hosts Limited Late Model, Sportsman, Hobby Stock, International,
and 4-Cylinder Bandit divisions Saturday nights through mid-September.
