JEFFERSON, WI (Saturday, May 11, 2013) On a chilly night at Wisconsin’s Action Track, Dale Nottestad of Cambridge heated things up by charging to the front of the field and staying there to win the Newville Auto Salvage 50 lap Late Model feature. The victory marks Nottestad’s first of the 2013 season after finishing off 2012 very strong by capturing the annual Wisconsin State Championships.

Tory Bagley and Dylan Schuyler led the field to green with Schuyler taking the early lead on lap one exiting turn four. Bagley dropped back to second with Roger Behlke running in third. On lap three Nottestad slid under Behlke into a battle for third. Nottestad claimed the spot on lap five and set his sights on Schuyler who had an eight car length advantage. Nottestad began reeling in the leader until finally catching him on lap 13. Nottestad dove under Schuyler entering turn as he drew even in a fight for the lead. A lap later, Nottestad moved into sole possession of top spot with Zack Riddle looking to follow into second. While Schuyler tried to hold off Riddle, Nottestad opened up a healthy lead over the field. Riddle eventually cleared for the second spot on lap 20 with Shaun Scheel in tow for third. The remainder of the caution free event saw Nottestad maintain his lead until crossing under the checkers to pick up the win. Riddle finished second followed by Shaun Scheel, Casey Johnson and Stephen Scheel.

JEFFERSON, WI (Saturday, May 04, 2013) Jefferson’s Kyle Jarlsberg rebounded strongly after missing the feature field on opening night one week ago by claiming the checkers to win the Radio Doctor 50 lap Late Model main event at Jefferson Speedway. Jarlsberg took advantage of his front row starting position to motor into the lead and never give up the top spot on his way to victory lane.

Jarlsberg and Tory Bagley paced the field of 18 Late Models to the drop of the green flag with Jarlsberg taking control on lap one. Bagley dropped back to second followed by Chris Quam in third. An early caution slowed the action when Ty James made contact with the turn four wall ending his evening all too early. As racing resumed, Jarlsberg held the point with Bagley still second and Quam trying to hold off Stephen Scheel for third. On lap 10, Scheel got to the inside of Quam as they battled side by side. Scheel eventually completed the pass on lap 14 as Ryan Goldade tried to follow. Scheel continued to move forward, racing under Bagley as he tried to steal second. Scheel cleared for the runner up spot on lap 20 as he began to slowly reel in Jarlsberg out front. The leaders remained single file lap after lap as Dale Nottestad and quick qualifier Zack Riddle tried to break into the top five. Roger Behlke relinquished the fifth position just before spinning on lap 42 to bring out the second and final caution of the race. But Jarlsberg remained strong out front over the final eight circuits to see the checkers first and pick up the win. Scheel was second followed by Bagley, Nottestad and Riddle.

JEFFERSON, WI (Saturday, April 27, 2013) Stoughton’s Casey Johnson opened the defense of his 2012 Jefferson Speedway Late Model crown in style after capturing the Ice Breaker 50 lap feature. The two time champ in Jefferson’s premier division kicked off the season by motoring to the front of the field and holding off a couple of hard chargers to grab the victory.

Ryan Zielski and Bruce Lee paced the pack as the green flag flew to get things underway. Zielski took the early lead on lap one as Dale Nottestad slid up to second past Lee. Lee continued to drop back after Dylan Schuyler and Johnson made their way into the top four. The first of four cautions waved on lap six when Chad Stevens got turned around. As racing resumed, Johnson slipped under Schuyler looking for third while Nottestad began to work over Zielski on the point. Nottestad pulled even with the leader on lap 13 as Johnson claimed the third position and pulled up behind the duo at the front. The second caution on lap 15 reset the field with Zielski out front and Nottestad lurking in second. Johnson made a move to the low side of Nottestad as the green flew again. The leaders bunched up in turn four allowing Johnson to get by Nottestad for second and draw even with Zielski for the lead. Johnson pulled alongside Zielski through turns one and two on lap 23. Johnson completed the pass for the lead exiting turn four on the same lap with Nottestad looking to follow into second. Johnson began to open up a large advantage while Nottestad and Zielski battled side by side. Nottestad grabbed control of second on lap 33 as Dan Jung moved up to challenge Zielski next. But contact between the two on lap 36 resulted in Zielski spinning to bring out caution number three and erase Johnson’s big lead. After the fourth and final caution two laps later, Nottestad set up to make his move on Johnson with Zack Riddle watching from third. Johnson maintained his advantage as the laps began to wind down with Riddle working on Nottestad for second. Riddle made the pass for the runner up position with eight laps remaining, but Johnson was in control on his way to the win. Riddle finished second with Nottestad, Schuyler and Shaun Scheel rounding out the top five.

JEFFERSON, WI (Saturday, September 15, 2012) If there was a trophy waiting in victory lane following a Big 8 Series Late Model race during the two day Wisconsin State Championships at Jefferson Speedway, the safe bet was that Dale Nottestad would be taking it home. The Cambridge pilot claimed four trophies during the program including the one naming him the 2012 overall champion of the 32nd annual event. That was just part of the great racing action over the past weekend at the speedway which also included the return of the Mid American Stock Car Series for the first time since 1995.

The first of twin 75 lap Late Model features started and ended with Nottestad at the front of the field. Along with Shaun Scheel, Nottestad brought the 24 car field to green to begin the action. Scheel held the advantage on lap one with Nottestad still flanking his inside. Nottestad drew back to even on lap three as they raced wheel to wheel for the top spot. On lap eight, Nottestad surged into the lead, clearing completely a lap later as Scheel fell back to second and 2012 track champion Casey Johnson running in third. The top three began to separate themselves from the rest of the pack as Chris Quam moved into fourth. The leaders began to spread apart from one another as they raced through heavy lapped traffic. The caution free racing ended on lap 51 for debris, closing the leaders back together for the final 24 circuits. The top five remained the same through the next 17 laps when Kyle Jarlsberg and Steve Dobbratz slid through turn three and into the outside wall collecting Alex Papini, Jesse Bernhagen and Ryan Carlson in the process. After racing resumed, Nottestad continued to show the way as the leaders ran nose to tail through on more caution until the checkers flew. At the stripe to complete the first 75 lapper, it was Nottestad with the win followed by Scheel, Johnson, Quam and Kyle Shear.

JEFFERSON, WI (Saturday, September 8, 2012) Rookie Late Model pilot Stephen Scheel of Lake Mills waited until the final points race of the 2012 season to pick up his first career feature win in the division. While Scheel won the battle, Stoughton's Casey Johnson won the war. Johnson survived mechanical difficulties at the start of the Havill Spoerl 65 lap main event to capture his second Late Model crown at Wisconsin's Action Track.

Scheel and Roger Behlke brought the field to the drop of the green flag. Before the completion of lap one, Johnson spun in turn four to force the only caution of the event. Johnson pulled into the pit area and retired for the evening as the field prepared to go green once again. Scheel grabbed control as racing resumed with Chris Quam pulling up under Behlke in a battle for second. Quam moved into second on lap two with Brady Liddle in tow for the third spot. A few laps later, Liddle got by Quam for second as Scheel was already enjoying a large lead. Liddle began to reel in the leader as the top three pulled away from the rest of the pack. By lap 25, Liddle was right behind Scheel as he applied pressure from the second position. Liddle remained on Scheel's rear bumper lap after lap as the pair of drivers continued to stretch their lead. The duo raced through heavy lapped traffic with Scheel showing the way the entire time. Liddle made one last attempt on the final lap, looking to the inside of Scheel entering turn three, but Scheel held off his advances to take the checkered flag first for the win. Liddle was second with Shaun Scheel, Dale Nottestad and Kyle Jarlsberg rounding out the top five.
