Schuyler Victorious at Jefferson Speedway

August 11, 2007; Jefferson WI — Dylan Schuyler of Jefferson claimed top honors in the “Watertown Bowl 50” Late Model feature. Starting outside row 5 Schuyler headed toward the front as Casey Johnson drove to the early lead. Johnson led the way for 34 laps as Schuyler made his way through the field, to the 2nd spot on the 20th circuit.

Closing with Johnson by lap 25, Schuyler moved to the inside, launching his bid for the top spot on lap 27. Johnson fought hard, on the outside, but Schuyler claimed the top spot on lap 35. As Schuyler moved to the point Doug Hahn was locked in a battle for 4th with Jerry Eckhart. Caution came, on lap 46, for a spin in the 4th turn, with Eckhart still running 3rd. On the restart Hahn motored past Eckhart closing with the leaders. At the stripe it was Schuyler for the win followed by Johnson, Hahn, John Ovadal and Roger Behlke.

In Sportsman action Dave Oswald of Cottage Grove claimed top honors in the 30 lap main event. Starting inside row 6 Oswald headed toward the point as Mark DePorter drove to the early lead. DePorter was relieved at the point by, rookie driver, Brady Lilly on lap 3. Lilly showed the way for 18 laps, building a strong lead, as Oswald worked his way to the front. Oswald motored under Bret Schmidt, for 2nd, on lap 20, closing with Lilly for the top spot. Oswald motored under Lilly, to make the winning pass, on lap 22, guiding the field from there to the checkers. At the stripe it was Oswald for the win followed by Lilly, Schmidt, Scott Riedner and Jay Kalbus.

In International action Mark English of Janesville claimed the win in the 20 lap feature. Starting inside row 5 English headed forward as Rodney Mundt jumped to the early lead. Mundt led 19, of the 20 laps, as English worked his way up. Caution came on lap 11, for a spin in turn 4. On the restart it was Mundt at the point with Kyle Smith 2nd, and English running 3rd. As they took the green it became a 3-way battle for the lead with Smith looking for a way past Mundt and English looking past both of them. English motored under Smith, on lap 17, claiming 2nd before the final caution came on lap 18, for a spin in turn 2. On the restart English moved to the inside, battling with Mundt. As the flew past the checkers it was English, by inches, over Mundt followed by Smith, Chris Gottschalk and Mike Winters.

In Hobby Stock action Pete Elgas of Janesville claimed victory in the 25 lap main event. Starting inside row 3, Elgas headed to the front as Roger Stephenson claimed the early lead. Elgas claimed the 2nd spot on lap 15 closing with Stephenson. Moving to the inside, on lap 21, Elgas launched his bid for the lead. Stephenson held tough, on the outside, as they battled side-by-side. Coming down the front stretch, on lap 24, they made contact, with Stephenson blowing a tire against the wall. Stephenson maintained control, but had to pull from the track. At the finish it was Elgas for the win followed by Tim Lange, Dennis Schmidt, Alan Dorn and Mike Meyers.

In Bandit action Kyle Padfield of Stoughton claimed top honors in the 20 lap feature. Starting outside row 3, Padfield started toward the point as Mark Dewey claimed the early lead. After a caution on lap 6, Dewey was still at the point, with Padfield running 3rd. Padfield motored past Tom Pfeifer by lap 15 closing with Dewey. Padfield edged ahead of Dewey, for the win, on the final lap. Rounding out the top 5 were Sean Watters, Stephen Scheel and Kyle Watters.
The United States Super Trucks, Northern Division was on hand for a, 12 lap, exhibition feature. J.C. Stanelle of Milton was victorious in that race.

During intermission WJJO’s Johnny Danger, hosted a race between a couple of pre-schoolers, in electric Hum-vee’s, that race was declared a tie, with both competitors winning basses to Chula-Vista for their families.

The Watertown Bowl challenge, (how far can you roll a bowling ball around the track), was won by Matt McKinney, unseating the defending champion Randy Kamenick. Both rolled the ball from the start finish line to the bottom of turn 3, with McKinney’s ball staying on the pavement about 20 feet further.

Next week Jefferson Speedway hosts the “Pernats Winners Circle Challenge”, along with a full racing program. Capping the night’s action is the Demo Derby (held over from August 4).

Gates open at 3:00PM, qualifying starts at 5:00PM and racing starts at 7:00PM sharp.

Also on tap next week, Sunday August 19, is the, first ever, Jefferson 400 Enduro. Eighty 4 cylinder cars, for 400 laps, on the quarter mile.

Gates open at 10:00AM, racing starts at 2:00PM.
Jefferson Speedway is half way between Cambridge and Jefferson Wisconsin, on highway 18.
